Nature Theater of Oklahoma ventures the impossible: creating a film version of Elfriede Jelinek’s 666 page novel “Die Kinder der Toten”, an (as yet) untranslated German language masterpiece in which all the main characters are all undead, mute zombies...
In September 2017 directors Kelly Copper and Pavol Liska worked on location in the Styrian mountainside town of Neuberg am der Murz with local citizens, farmers, grocers, brass bands, the fire department -- even mountain rescue! -- to stage some pretty awesome participatory theater, and eventually create what is sure to be a one-of-a-kind supernaturally super 8 film...

Over the past two years, Die Kinder der Toten has been screened in over 70 film festivals around the world from Europe to India, to Iceland and Argentina. The film was awarded the International Federation of Film Critics FIPRESCI Award for Best Film (Forum Section of the 69th Berlin Film Festival 2019), the Buenos Aires Festival International de Cine Independiente Grand Jury Prize for Best Film 2019 (Avant-Garde & Genre Official Competition), the Prix Sauvage for Best Feature Film 2020 L’Europe Autour de l’Europe Festival of European Films, and also received the Austrian Film Award for Best Score (composer Wolfgang Mitterer) in 2020. In addition, for their work on this project the directors received the Nestroy Special Prize in Theater (2018).
